As the Coronavirus pandemic keeps haunting the nation, West Bengal and Orissa are faced with a new challenge. Super cyclone Amphan makes landfall in these two states soon.

According to the report published by the India Meteorological Department, Amphan is headed towards the countries bordering the Bay of Bengal at a speed of 230 kmph. It is said to be one of the strongest storms ever recorded in the Bay of Bengal since 1999. 

Evacuation Due To Amphan

41 teams have been deployed by the NDRF before it hits Odisha and West Bengal. The evacuation process has already started. A total of one lakh people have already been evacuated from the West Bengal Coastal Region. 

Another report states that 15 teams of the local government also have started the evacuation process in Odisha. A total of 19 local government teams are assisting people in West Bengal.

Predictions state that West Bengal will be more affected by the cyclone. The Honourable Home Minister Mr.Amit Shah has contacted Chief Minister of the state Mamata Banerjee. He has offered assurance about helping out in these desperate times. She has accepted the offer and teams are jointly taking care of the matter.

Where is Amphan headed

It is has been understood that the West Bengal Cyclone is likely to make a landfall between Hatiya Island in Bangladesh and Digha in West Bengal. There are also predictions that Sagar Island and Kakdwip may also be affected instead by the Cyclone.

We pray for the safety and well-being of everyone. Everyone is requested to stay indoors. People should follow the safety precautions suggested by their respective local governments. We are already under stress due to the Corona pandemic. It will be better if we are careful and avoid any mistakes further.

Once the cyclone has passed, there will still be a lot of work required. Therefore, the damage it will do will need coordinated effort from all quarters of the society. All of us will be needed to come together for this cause. Lot of damage will happen due to this super cyclone. So a lot is expected from the unaffected people. But that is for later. Right now, we must focus on keeping ourselves safe.

Stay indoors and stock up on essentials. That’s the minimum everyone should be doing right now. Also switch off the power when the super cyclone approaches your area. And if possible, give shelter to the street dog that lives on the road outside your home. Be human first.
