Namaste!

This is Kirtika Surolia.

I think all of us come across a perfect moment of our first introduction to art. Maybe with the first set of crayons, or, in the form of a few white sheets or simply a pencil in hand to be excited about. Mine was a similar case, with sketches.

From my early childhood, I ALWAYS preferred drawing, colours, books, pictures, etc. around me than any sophisticated toy. It was like a comfort zone. It still is. I began with pencil sketches as it attracted my attention more than colours. It seemed more natural and real in its strokes, textures and curves than this colourful world. I still remember formally getting a drawing copy and it was my most precious possession. Soon I started exploring other forms of art- from crayons to pastels and watercolour. I tried glass painting, fabric painting, papercraft, doodling, clay painting, etc.

Sketches still remained my favourite

Although I never had formal training in art, I found my self more and more drowned in it. The maximum credit goes to my mother who has an eye for aesthetics. When I came across the vast internet world, my first search was about great artists around the world. I saw Gogh, Picasso, Vinci, Michelangelo, Raja Ravi Verma, Nandlal Bose, Jamini Roy, Amrita Shergill, Tagore and many more.

I was unaware. In fact, I always wanted to be an artist. Somehow, our today’s society shies away from creating artists. Eventually, I got more involved in my studies. Still, art is my soul. When I write, speak, dance, or perform, all I do is visualize it in the form of sketches or painting. The little girl in me still turns towards art to find comfort when tired of the chaos around. I also express myself using pen sketches, as you will find below. I started with easy sketches and today, I am able to do a bit more than that, I would say. What do you think? Do let me know in your comments below…
