When asked Mr. Anurag Mishra, the CEO of Greentech Energy and receiver of Limca Book of World Record for the world’s smallest washing machine, in 2014 he had quite a few choicest words to share with us. “I belong to a modest family and my roots are from the remote rural area of Odisha; an area that sees storms, rainfalls, and cyclones throughout the year and sees a summer unlike any other. Which ultimately means, no electricity for days together. Though I wouldn’t boast of grades, I would certainly say that my inclination towards innovation was unparalleled. I used to spend nights trying to gobble up the syllabus, as we were given just one candle to last us for two days. By god’s grace, I was accepted into a nationally accredited university and since then I have never experienced anything other than a few power cuts here and there, but the memories do remain. In my second year of B-Tech, I was already earning a 5 digit amount and used to travel a lot. Something that never changed was the beauty of the countryside in the day and the darkness that engulfs it at night. After such a trip I realized, this darkness isn’t just mine, but the battle is sure mine. This inspired me to venture into solar power. Since then, I have succeeded in developing a set up that is both sustainable and affordable by the common masses.”

Whatever surplus you generate in the morning goes to the grid and at night you draw the same energy back from the grid. The amount is adjusted as per the consumption. The surplus you generate is adjusted to your bill automatically. In this, you wouldn’t have a battery that stores the surplus energy, instead, you will have to draw from an inverter that you already have at your home. On grids are cheaper and are widely installed in various areas where the electricity supply is fickle.
Off-grid installations are elaborate and costlier. These installations are made in areas with absolutely no electricity access. They have a battery and the battery supports the power needs at night. This concept is less opted for since people usually have access to electricity in most of the parts. But we still have made off-grid installations for several farmhouses and small-scale industries. These installations have not only made them independent but have made their lives and ventures much profitable than before.
