Poem by Aishiki Basu | Luv Kolkata

We bring to you a poem by Aishiki Basu, a budding writer.

Still, I Rise

The happy girl smiled at me,

Why is fear not the emotion I see?

She seemed so content and pleased To be,

Was this reflection really me?

…..

Dimples caressed her cheeks just fine,

Eyes brighter than the stars that shine,

Face so flushed and full of life,

Was this reflection really mine?

I touched my face and so did she,

She flashed a smile and winked at me.

But I just frowned…Quite obviously…

…..

My skin felt cold, hollow to the touch,

I lowered my eyes…Not surprised much.

‘Hey, what happened? Look at me.

”I am not you!Why can’t you see?’

…..

Something snapped as I finally screamed.
Then for the first time, she ceased to smile.

And then she gently sighed ‘Yes, you are right.’

‘I am confined just to this mirror.

No one will care if I make an error.

But you?You are free, so why not conquer?

Show them who is the real winner.’

….

‘You?’ I pointed, in a trembling whisper, ‘Yes, You.’

She pointed back. Three times as louder.

Go tell them your strength, power and records,

Tell them, you’re not afraid of their Rules and methods,

Show them that you are capable of still, rising against all odds.
